Machias Seal Island

July 17, 2004

We had a wonderful, foggy trip to Machias Seal Island, led by SJNC's Jim Wilson, on Captain Peter Wilcox's Seawatcher, assisted by First Mate Durlan Ingersoll.

David enjoyed every aspect of the trip, and couldn't get enough of the different boats, even if Pattie, Jasmine and I felt a little green on the way out.

The trip meant quite a few new lifers for us: Greater Shearwater, Sooty Shearwater, Wilson's Storm-Petrel, Razorbill, Common Murre, Atlantic Puffin and Arctic Tern.

As for the pictures, I'm full of excuses: the haze made for less-than-optimal conditions, so I'm working on Pattie now for a second trip ;-)  I don't think I got one picture with the eye of a Razorbill really visible without having to over-expose the shot.  Next time I'll experiment with flash.
