Hiking Los Toucanes, the "new lava trail"

Our driver on the way back spoke of a biologist friend of his, who was hiking this trail and, where the lava flow starts (and where Pattie is posing now) was bitten by a Fer-de-lance, one of the more dangerous and largest pit vipers in the country. He said she was lucky (his friend that is, though maybe Pattie too ;-) as it was a "dry" bite and she experienced minimal harm. Needless to say the story was a little sobering for Pattie.
