Gray-necked Wood-Rail (Aramides cajanea) (back to trip gallery)

Pattie and I found this bird while strolling through the resort's grounds.

This one is healthy, but disturbingly there was another wandering around that had lost one foot, and the other was at risk from twine that was wrapped around it. Andy suspected it had been kept on a string, and that the other foot would eventually fall to the same fate; we tried to catch it but weren't successful.
